I'm a Brand & Showit Web Designer (and recent 2024 Bride!) who is totally in love with crafting beautiful websites with STRATEGY, so your dream brides stop in their tracks and actually inquire! I live in beautiful Nashville, TN where when I'm not working I love exploring coffee shops, hiking, walking my dog Ollie, and paddleboarding with my husband Corey.
There isn’t a wedding photographer I’ve met who has NOT been stressed about SEO. Especially in a hot market like Nashville (where I currently live), ranking for something like “Nashville Wedding Photographer” can feel all but impossible.
FORTUNATELY… it’s not impossible! Yes, you can rank! It does, however, require quite a bit of work and time (it’s a long game, aka not an overnight fix) to get there, but we all have to start somewhere, right?
In this blog post, I’m diving into the 6 steps I recommend to improve your SEO as a wedding photographer in 2024. They’re all things that you can do on your own (of varying difficulties and varying times required), so you can start as soon as you want… heck, you could even start right now!
So without further ado… here are my 6 ways to boost your SEO so you can (eventually) rank on Google as a wedding photographer in your city…
First things first, if you haven’t set up your Google Business profile yet, do that RIGHT NOW. This little gem is totally free and can seriously help with your local SEO.
Here’s how to get started:
Pro tip: Keep this baby updated regularly. Google loves fresh content, and so do potential clients!
Okay, let’s talk keywords. When I talk about an SEO keyword, I’m talking about the specific words or phrases that potential clients might use when searching online for wedding photography services. Think of them as the language your ideal customers use when looking for someone like you.
Using these keywords strategically in your website copy, blog posts, and photo descriptions can help your business appear higher in search engine results when people look for wedding photography services. This increased visibility can lead to more potential clients finding and booking you.
How to find your perfect keywords:
While it feels like the last thing you might want to do, blogging just might be the BEST thing you can do for your SEO. Why? KEYWORDS. Posting value-packed blogs loaded with keywords tells Google that you know a TON about the keyword you’re talking about that your brides are searching over and over for. So the more blogs you post, the more likely you are to rank.
My personal recommendation for frequency is once a week, but overall, just try to be consistent! If twice a month or once a month is all you can handle at the moment, that’s okay! Just know that the sooner you get started the better, and the more content you’ve got out there, the more likely you are to rank!
If you’re struggling to come up with things to write about (aren’t we all?), I have the best resource for you! I created a free guide filled with blog post ideas for every type of wedding vendor!
If you’re wondering what the heck a backlink it is… I’m here to help. A backlink is simply a link from one website to another website. Backlinks are important for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) because they signal to search engines that your website is valuable and authoritative.
Think of it this way: if lots of people are talking about you on their websites (and backlinking to your site), then Google thinks, “Dang, this website must be super relevant! We’d better increase their rank on Google so people can find them!”
There are lots of ways to get backlinks to your website…
It’s not about gaming the system. Build genuine relationships, and the backlinks will follow!
Social media, really? Yes, really. Posting on Instagram is certainly not going to drive the ship of your photographer SEO, BUT it does help you with a few key pieces when it comes to ranking on Google.
Social media, like Instagram, can indirectly boost your SEO by:
PRO TIP! Believe it or not, some Instagram accounts are starting to pull up on Google as well, so make sure your Instagram bio is also SEO optimized. Make sure keywords that people would search both on Instagram and Google are in there, and your Instagram profile itself might just show up on Google!
Last but not least, keep an eye on how all your hard work is paying off! I recommend using tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to monitor your traffic, keyword rankings, and overall SEO health.
Set aside some time each month to review your stats and adjust your strategy. SEO is a marathon, not a sprint, so be patient and persistent!
There you have it, friends – 6 ways to kickstart your SEO as a wedding photographer! Remember, this will certainly not happen overnight. But over time, with consistent effort and by providing serious value through your website, you will start to see results on your SEO! It’s about consistent effort and always providing value to your ideal clients.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some SEO of my own to tackle. A web designer’s work is never done… but at least I can justify looking at wedding photos all day, right? 😜
